Fall Out Boy Tries To Save Rock And Roll

I might not be a writer for Up The Pucks after this album review goes up, but if you’re like me, this is a weird moment for my angsty years.  Growing up there was a lot of grunge, then there was this big gap of music that I now categorize as “guilty pleasures” and I’m sure I’m not the only one to be secretly excited about the new Fall Out Boy album.  Whether you were 13 or 25 when you discovered them, their earlier lyrics spoke to your inner-whiny brat (or possibly your very vocal whiny brat).  Their last album, Folie à Deux was released in 2008 and soon after they went on hiatus/broke up/took a rocket to the moon.  But yesterday, whatever they've been going through came to an end with the release of Save Rock And Roll.

The album sounds completely like Fall Out Boy, and yet nothing like them.

Album Review - Nails - Abandon All Life

Let's travel back in time to late 2010, the first time I'd ever heard Nails, and my reaction to such event on a message board:

"Holy shit. It's like being hit by a train carrying 10 tons of awesome."

Three years later, that statement still stands. "Abandon All Life" is their new album, and it just crushes skulls.

UTP Album Review: Wicked Bad

Let me start this off by saying that I'm a bit biased towards the Dropkick Murphys. I'm from Massachusetts, I absolutely love Boston sports teams (aside from the Celtics), I love punk rock, and I've got about 1/8th Irish blood running through me. I say the word "wicked" a lot. I should like the Murphys. And I do. I've seen them live more times than any other band I can remember seeing. Countless t-shirts line my drawers. Now let's throw that bias out the window and take a look at their newest album, "Signed And Sealed In Blood", which comes out today (1/7/13).

UTP Reviews: The Best Ways To Disappear by Candy Hearts

I can't remember the last time that I actually wrote a review. With that understanding I picked an EP to help me ease back into the swing of things. As the NHL lockout continues to stretch on and as Nashville continues to be devoid of anything to bridge high school and NHL hockey I needed a pick-me-up. Conviently Candy Hearts released a new EP today.

UTP Reviews: Handwritten by The Gaslight Anthem

With far more speed than I ever seem to manage alone, Cait and I have prepared an all new review. Our timing is a bit better on this podcast with Handwritten having been released sometime recently. I just started working and have a killer commute until I move, so I'm wipped and thus am going to keep this short.

Please, to enjoy.
