Dear Matt Cooke PR Team,
Glad to see you've decided to use this lockout as a PR spin for your client Matt Cooke. Really great to see him coaching his kid's soccer team and spending time with his family. That's nice. Really thumbs up.
HA! Did you think I was going to forget how awful he is? And I'm not talking awful like the New York Islanders, I'm talking awful as in only a step or two down from Raffi Torres or Todd Bertuzzi.
I get that it's the lockout and both the players and owners are trying to keep up appearances that they aren't entitled or greedy or whatever. And I get that news outlets are desperate for hockey news too. But can the snippets we get that aren't about the lockout not be full of bullshit? I don't care that he's working with his daughter to get better at her soccer skills, much like I don't care that Sidney Crosby thinks Connor Mc David has a bright future. Crosby is still an ass who flicked Jakub Voracek's glove because he could and Matt Cooke is still the headhunting jerk that has been trying to change his image with the NHL in the past season. Both of those two have made headlines over the years, but all the good deeds Cooke put forth last year has been completely forgotten by moments like this.
Stop inserting yourself in this "perfect" PR moments. You know what a guy looks like with his head down, Cooke, keep yours down, please. Every time I read about you, I don't think "Geez whizz, what a stand up family man", no I think about this game, where yes, in the grand scheme of things you were only a small jerk but in a game full of asshattery, it's hard to really pin down who was the worst.
Anything and everything Matt Cooke has done to improve his image has been wiped clean. Please coach in obscurity, I'm sure your kid's will appreciate you being there for more than just getting positive headlines.
Hugs and kisses,
Cait
