How You Can Save The World From Bad Hockey Music
Seriously. Music played at hockey arenas isn't that great. At all. Hockey is rife with crappy "alt-rock" commerical mainstream whatever the crap. Even the Bruins organist started playing Lady Gaga songs a few seasons back.
It's getting to the point where MLS has cooler music than hockey:
But apparently this is something you can change, now? I can't, personally. I applied for a job playing in-game music for the Albany Devils and never heard back. But you! You can help!
The Canucks are running an online vote to find a new entrance song, which for reasons I'm unsure of, is titled Project NU2. They've found their six finalists, and one of them is "The House That Heaven Built", by Vancouver natives (and one of my favorite bands ever) Japandroids.
(oh. Wait. I get it now. The current song is a U2 song. New...NU2. Jesus christ Vancouver, that's horrible.)
This needs to be done. Even if you're not a Canucks fan (I am definitely not), go vote for this damn song. It's a great track, off one of 2012's best albums, and face it, do you really need to hear Nickelback or Guns N' Roses ever, ever again?
Of course, the winning track only gets a two-game tryout, but I'm sure the good, non-rioting people of Vancouver would rather have a two-game break from U2 and hear an amazing local band played at their rink instead.
