On May 4th, 2012, the world lost a great man. The death of Adam Yauch reached far beyond the 5 boroughs of New York City, but today the city that raised him, commemorated him in the most fitting way possible.
Columbia Place and State Street in Brooklyn Heights is home to Palmetto Playground, which at a dedication ceremony today, was renamed Adam Yauch Park. This was the park Yauch (better known as MCA) grew up, where he spent his youngest years and where future bad ass punks can have fun. The park will include basketball courts, gardens, greenhouses, open space, and an area for a dogs the play.
Adam Yauch proves that even in death, one can still be the coolest guy ever. Despite his global fame in music, film, and activism, MCA never forgot that he was a Brooklyn boy through and through and frequently mention the neighborhood and it's influence on him:
"Born and bred Brooklyn - U.S.A.
They all me Adam Yauch - but I'm M.C.A."
-- No Sleep Til Brooklyn
I encourage everyone to stop by and enjoy the awesome little haven in Brooklyn Heights.
